Town of Vinton Accepting Applications

The Town of Vinton is accepting applications for two open positions in the Public Works department.  The openings are for a full time electrical person and a full time lineman.

Applications can be picked up and submitted at Vinton City Hall.  Please note we are an equal opportunity employer.

FFBLA opening

First Federal Bank Grand Opening

On Monday, October 8, at 10:00 am, First Federal Bank of Louisiana had a Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at the new branch building opening in Vinton.  First Federal moved into the building on Center St that formerly housed Iberia Bank.  The Vinton High School Band played before the ceremony.  The Boy Scouts of America led the Pledge of Allegiance.  And even Gumbeaux Gator was on hand to enliven the event.  Refreshments were served afterwards in the bank building.

Coffee with the Mayor

The Town of Vinton hosted a “Coffee with the Mayor” on the morning of Friday, October 5 for citizens to meet and talk with Town officials and others.  Among the participants were representatives of Westlake Chemical, who presented the Vinton High School Band with a donation of $500.00

Advertisement for Sealed Bids

The TOWN OF VINTON, LOUISIANA does hereby advertise for sealed bids and will open same on October 10, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Vinton City Hall, located at 1200 Horridge St., Vinton, LA 70668 for the following: 500-Form 2s and 50-Form 16s

AMR ELECTRIC METERS

Meters must be self contained and compatible with Town’s existing remote read electric, and water meter system: Master Meter 3G Drive-by system. Proposed systems that are not compatible will not be considered.

All bids must be submitted on BID FORMS.  Paper Bids Forms and a complete set of Bid Specifications may be obtained from the Town of Vinton, 1200 Horridge St, Vinton LA  70668.

Preference is given to materials, supplies and provisions that are produced, manufactured, or grown in Louisiana, quality being equal to articles offered by competitors outside of the State.

The Owner reserves the right to reject any and all bids for just cause as permitted by LA R.S. 38:2214B.  The ability of an Entity to reject any bid is applicable only when administered in accordance with the Public Bid Law.  In accordance with LA R.S. 38:2212B. (1), the provisions and requirements of this Section, and those stated in the bidding documents shall not be waived by any entity.

Bids may be held by the Town of Vinton for a period not to exceed forty-five (45) days from the date of the opening of bids for the purpose of reviewing the bids and investigating the qualifications of bidders, prior to award.

Official action on this bid will be taken at the a Meeting of the Town of Vinton within forty-five (45) days.

Jason McGee Fundraiser

There was a fundraiser on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Vinton Rec Center for Jason McGee, one of the Town of Vinton police officers.  The fundraiser included an auction, a silent auction, a bake sale, hot dogs and BBQ, and the Rec Center pool open for use with a donation.  Live music was on hand at the Rec Center Pavilion.  Despite rainy weather, there was a large turnout and the event raised a considerable sum to pay for medical expenses.  Mayor Kenneth Stinson issued a proclamation declaring September 8 to be Jason McGee day.

The Town of Vinton stands behind Jason McGee and asks he be kept in our thoughts and prayers.

Summer Food Service Program

The Calcasieu Police Jury’s Human Services Department will offer a Summer Food Service Program for children under 18.  The program will be free and will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, until July 27, 2018.

No registration is required.  All food must be eaten on site and provided on a first-come, first-service basis.

Memorial Day 2018

2018 Memorial Day Program

A Memorial Day program was held on Monday, May 28, at VFW Post 9854 on Hwy 109.  Mayor Kenneth Stinson and VMAFC VP Houston Fruge gave the opening comments.  Guest speaker was Major Debbie McElhannon, USAR.  J.D. Malone gave a short presentation on the Bataan Death March.  Part of the ceremony included the awarding of certificates to the winners of the VMAFC Essay Contest.  Two of the winners, Brooklyn Landry and Grace Lange, gave remarks to the audience.  The other award winners were Corbyn Coleman, Taylor Frederick, and Madison Jones.

National Day of Prayer 2018

National Day of Prayer

On Thursday, May 3, citizens gathered in front of the Vinton Police Department to take part in the National Day of Prayer.  Leading the group in song were children from Emmanuel Christian Academy.  They also performed a song in sign language.  Rev. Andy Goff, Welsh Memorial Methodist Church, led the opening prayer.  David Smith gave the closing words.
